Christina from San Jose this weekend ventured into the world of beekeeping by adopting a healthy growing single medium hive. The colony has a good population and when we opened up the hive we can see that the bees are drawing new comb on the 9th frame and filling with nectar. Took out a few frames for inspection and a quick beekeeping 101. There are nice full frames of brood of all stages in this colony and are ready for the beginning of the nectar flow.

With our weather conditions these girls should fill up the two empty frames fairly quickly, and I’m betting this colony will produce excess honey to be harvested by Summer. Thanks Christina for adopting this hive and keep me updated on your beekeeping adventures.

Good luck, Christina!
