Ants Ants Ants!

I would have to say that a majority if not all beekeepers will run into an ant issue at their hives sooner or later. So my recommendation to new beekeepers is to set your new hives on a platform that is already set up for future ant proofing of your hives. Moving them later like I did to two of my hives was not difficult but not fun either.

Here’s the picture of the Wine Barrel Hive I just moved onto an ant proof setup. I use water in those trays but others have used cooking oil, motor oil (which I won’t use myself but it does not evaporate as fast), tanglefoot for fruit trees, grease, and a few others.
