Queen Bee Found – Krzich Hive Update

Great news!!! It was a gorgeous afternoon so we popped open the Krzich hive for a quick re-org, removing the extra medium and adding two frames of honey into the hive. We actually only added one because these girls are already bringing nectar and pollen! They are also re-attaching the combs we rubberbanded to the foundationless frames and also building new comb on the empty ones. While we were going from frame to frame looking for either the queen or emergency queen cells, we found the queen after a few frames!!! She is smaller than some feral queens we have caught so we must have missed her when we rescued the colony from the sprinkler valve box and sucked her up in the bee vac. It’s awesome and my dad and I were very happy to know that the Krzich colony is not queenless.
