Manzanita is one of the major nectar sources in our area and this shrub begins to bloom in January. I have noticed them in full bloom for weeks now and looks strong. The end of the Manzanita bloom for our region is May. (Bloom season is from January to May).
On a side note, when I was at Oakland Zoo last week there were many plants that are wonderful for honey bees including bushes and bushes of blooming Manzanita. But I watched for a while as my kids were checking out the animals. I didn’t see a single honey bee there that day; it was 70F! Hmm… there must be a better source or there’s just no bees around Oakland Zoo, kinda weird.
