Great Honey Year

It has been a great year for honey on the Peninsula with strong hives producing a good load of honey as our nectar flow was strong this season. Last weekend we harvested a third time from the Mountain View hive, making a total of 105 pound harvested honey with still another medium completely full of capped honey, about 30 to 40 pounds, that we left for the bees but might harvest in the Fall depending on our nectar flow at that time of the year. Other strong colonies have also produced a crop and others in the area have also reported great numbers.

Here’s the Mountain View hive that’s six mediums high. When we harvested we removed the sixth box because they didn’t even touch it. Harvested from box #5 and put that one back to see if they will do anything with it. If not we’ll remove it when the cold and wet period comes.
