Last year November and December were the two months that took a toll on many hives throughout the Bay Area with much continuous rain and frost. This year the start of November isn’t looking any better with rains forecasted for this week and next, and looking at the 10 day outlook you can see that it’ll be a cold one.
When temps dip this low at night the bees will definitely be in cluster mode. The stronger hives will still wake up to a cool morning and will forage when the temps warm up. Smaller hives you might not see any activity in the morning until the PM. And again, if you have not covered your hive from the rain yet, do so now.
