Bee Hive In Atherton – Site Check

Received a phone call this afternoon from Mark of Atherton. His tree removers ran into a bee colony high up on a rotted hollow of an oak tree that needs to be taken down. I knew it was high and probably unable for me to reach to save or remove the bees but I went for a site check anyways so I can advice the homeowner on what the options are at removing the bees and then the tree.

The bees are entering through a rotted area about 30 feet from the ground. No way I’m getting up there unless there’s a stable platform like a scissor lift. 🙂 You can see the rope the tree remover left up there. He had a beesuit and sprayed this colony but of course we know spraying honeybees will not kill the entire colony.
