Beekeeping 101 In Los Altos

As stated in my other blog posts I love to teach especially about beekeeping. This afternoon I made my way just a couple of miles away to Tom’s place in Los Altos for the third beekeeping 101 lesson of the day.

Tom adopted this hive the first week of February. It has been too cold to open up the hive until today. We go in for Tom’s first inspection of his bees.

We spotted the queen in the upper medium. A huge queen! (This is the fifth queen I saw today) They have a ton of bees, honey (capped and new), brood of all stages, and drones flying.

Here is Tom holding a frame of uncapped honey.
