Mountain View Bee Swarm Removal – Small Swarm

Went after a swarm call late Monday night as it was closer to me than another local bee remover. Loaded the truck and picked up my dad at his place in Mountain View and headed down the road to where the swarm was located. Here’s what we came up to. Because I cropped the photo the swarm looks pretty big but it was not.

The swarm was just a tad larger than my hands and it was short of narrow in size.

Ted called to save the swarm of bees. Thanks!

Last night we couldn’t find the queen. This morning we looked again and couldn’t find the queen. It was probably a queenless swarm as we looked everywhere on the tree after we shook these into the hive box. By this afternoon all the bees absconded. Oh well.

  1. Joe Ridgway says:

Looks like you are getting more swarms than usual. Does this mean feral hives are returning. I have yet to see a swarm in the mid atlantic states but have been apprised that they are appearing.

  2. We have a lot of ferals around here which is a good sign. 🙂
