Palo Alto Bee Swarm Removal In The Dark

Sunday was one of those looooong days. We did a cutout in my yard of the birdhouse bees, did a site check in San Jose, and two swarm calls. This one I didn’t get to until 9 PM and I’m so glad it was an easy one. We did have to climb onto the roof to get to them though.

While I held the medium box right under the bees my dad clipped two branches and the entire swarm fell right in. Lower and put the cover on. A quick and easy swarm rescue.

Finding the queen in the dark with only two flashlights was not easy. There were a lot of bees to dig through but we finally caught her. Probably a good 3 pound of bees in this swarm.

Thanks Lauren for calling us to save our local honeybees!

  1. Todd says:

Holy Smokes Jack! You and you’re dad have been busy. This week should prove to be a busy week for swarms I reckon. Sunshine for a while. Woo Hoo!

  2. It’s that time of the year. And today is again swarm conditions. After swarm from one of my parent’s hives landed next door. Just caught that one. Got another call in East SJ which I had to pass on to another person as I can’t get to it today. Supposed to be a nice size one too.
