Los Altos Swarm On Maple Tree

Monday night, 9 PM, last bee swarm removal of the day though we did get a call for a tiny swarm in Palo Alto. This swarm landed in a Japanese maple tree and it was a good 3 pound of bees. We trimmed the smaller branches and then cut the large branch dropping all the bees into a medium hive box all at once. Can’t get any easier.

We brought the bees home and then went to work looking for the queen. It’s always hard to find the queen in the dark using only flashlights and when there is a ton of bees running in all different directions. To add to the difficulty this queen was dark in color so it was hard to find her as she looked very similar to the other bees.

Thanks Megan for calling us to save the bees right before this storm rolled in!
