I have to begin this blog post by saying thanks to the Orkin Pest Control technician for not spraying the honeybee swarm he identified, and also thank Jessica for calling us to save our local honeybees.
It was a small swarm on an olive tree about 9 feet up. We trimmed a few branches to reach them and because we planned for a dinner time removal all the bees were back and when we cut the branch to drop the bees into the hive box, only a few flew off of the cluster.
We brought the bees home and then looked for the queen. She was easy to spot since there weren’t that many bees and she’s golden in color (arrow in the above picture indicates the queen bee).
Thanks again Jessica!
