Garbage Can Bees Hived

May 16th we brought home a 20 gallon garbage can that was used for compost but some bees moved in about 6 months ago. Today we had an hour to spare between events and did this quick cutout in my apiary.

The combs weren’t attached to the lid. Must have fallen even before we transported it back to my yard.

Found eggs and very little capped brood. That’s about all the bees in this colony, pretty small in numbers.

There is a nice looking queen though. We hived them today and will provide them with some honey as they are lacking food. See if they can build up quickly.
