Received an email from Chris Friday morning regarding a bee swarm in Menlo Park. First the swarm was on the bush but later the bees were on the ground. When I hear that the bees are on the ground there must be something wrong. Usually swarms do not just sit on the ground. Here’s what we found when we arrived. It was a tiny swarm, perhaps an after-swarm or something. Immediately I spotted the golden orange abdomen of the queen.
We caged her and put her into the hive box. Then the rest of the bees like good soldiers marched right into the hive all by themselves.
Thanks Chris for calling us to save our local honeybees. We will rescue any size colony.
