Los Altos High School Bee Removal – The Quad Bees

Wow, it has been 20 years since high school and today’s bee swarm call from Mr. Rosenberg, who taught English when I was there, brought me back to Los Altos High School. The swarm of bees arrived around noon when the the students were still in school and landed on a maple tree in the quad which looks completely different than when I attended the school. Ten feet up the small swarm cluster hung on a really thin branch. It was a pretty amazing site as the afternoon winds were blowing pretty hard and the swarm cluster blew in all directions yet they were still able to hold on tight and not fall. I should have captured a video of it but I wanted to get the swarm down before they did really get blown down.

Here’s the maple tree they were on. I forgot to take a picture before we hived the swarm of honeybees.

We brought the bees home and then looked for the queen… and here she is. 🙂

Thanks Mr. Rosenberg of Los Altos High School for calling us to save our local honeybees!
