Newly Established Colony Garden Hosed! – Menlo Park Bee Removal

Received a call regarding a swarm that recently moved into a compost bin. He wasn’t sure what to do so at night time he kind of opened the lid just enough and blasted the bees with a garden hose hoping they would just leave. Well, once the colony establishes themselves, draw comb, most likely they will not be leaving anytime soon. Here’s what we found when we arrived on the scene.

A small cluster of bees on the side of the compost bin, the lid removed, and a comb section on the ground. We looked for the queen and she’s no where to be found. Must have been one of the many casualties from the water blast. We vacuumed the bees and brought them home for a combine with another small colony that has a laying queen.
